This one started as an experiment. It ended as a favorite.
This vessel was wheel-thrown in my Portland studio from Pioneer Dark with Speckles — a warm, iron-rich stoneware with non-toxic black glass frit speckles that give the surface a life and depth that plain clay bodies simply can't match. It's finished in Riptide, a glaze that collected into the hand-carved dot pattern like tiny turquoise pools, each one a slightly different depth of color, each one catching the light differently depending on the time of day.
The result looks less like a glazed pot and more like a piece of turquoise stone that decided to become one — a perfect blend of earth and sky, grounded and luminous at the same time.
The interior is fully glazed, making this vessel genuinely versatile. Use it as a planter for a small succulent or cactus. Use it as a catch-all on your desk. A pencil holder. A home for one beautiful rock and whatever else accumulates. It is not food safe, but it is ready for just about everything else.
One of a kind. The Riptide glaze pools differently into every carved surface — this particular tidepool exists only once.Wheel-thrown Pioneer Dark with Speckles stoneware | 4" diameter × 3" tall | Oregon clay
