Wheel-thrown White Salmon with Speckles stoneware | 5.5" diameter × 4" tall | Micro paracord hanger | Oregon clay
This one arrived like a good mood you didn't see coming.
Wheel-thrown in my Portland studio from White Salmon with Speckles — a porcelain-stoneware hybrid that brings the best of both worlds to the wheel — this planter is finished in Parakeet Yellow, a warm, speckled sunshine glaze that somehow manages to be both cheerful and sophisticated at the same time. The black glass frit speckles in the clay push through the glaze like freckles in the sun, giving the surface a depth and warmth that solid-body clays simply can't replicate.
The form is generous and round — the kind of shape that looks good from every angle, including below, which is where you'll mostly be seeing it. At 5.5" wide and 4" tall it has real presence. This is not a shy planter.
It layers beautifully with other pieces in the hanging planter series — hang it alongside Honeycomb for a warm, golden conversation, or let it hold its own in a bright window where it will absolutely make the most of the light.
The hanger is braided dark micro paracord, twisted by hand to complement the warmth of the glaze.
One of a kind. White Salmon with Speckles is a limited clay body in the studio — this warm, speckled surface exists in only a handful of pieces.
****A note on how this is made: The interior is intentionally left unglazed — raw stoneware breathes in a way glazed clay simply can't, and your plant roots will thank you for it. There are no drainage holes, because this planter is designed to be used with a grow pot nestled inside. Slip your plant in its nursery pot, hang it up, and lift it out easily to water properly and check on root health without ceremony or mess. The bottom is finished with as much care as the outside — smooth, clean, and beautiful — because when something hangs overhead, the view from below matters just as much as the view from across the room.
