Little Vessels for the Quiet Things 🌊
These came out of the studio feeling like they belonged to the moon before they belonged to me.
I rolled a wave relief into the clay first — the kind of texture that wants to move even while it's sitting still. Then I threw a foot ring into each one, and let them dry asymmetrical on purpose. Same gesture, different tide. No two scalloped edges curl quite the same way, the way no two waves arrive at the shore identically, even though they're all born from the same pull.
Inside, a pearl-white glaze settles over dark chocolate stoneware — and where the two meet, there's this soft mineral haze, like sea foam catching low light. It's the kind of glaze that looks like it's holding water even when it's empty.
A small confession, in the spirit of honesty: the kiln had its own ideas about a bit of this glaze, and left some very minor bubbling — small enough you'd have to go looking for it, but enough that I won't call these food safe. Decorative only, please. But oh, the lives these little dishes are made for —
Rings, slipped off at the sink. A catch-all for keys by the front door. A drainage dish tucked under a favorite plant. Smudge bundles and incense resting in their curve. A few candies, wrapped and waiting. Quiet altars for whatever you're praying to, or offering up, or simply setting down for a moment.
